South African surveillance systems developer and manufacturer Cathexis Technologies has provided an integrated surveillance solution to the Hershey School Campus in Pennsylvania. The solution includes multiple DVR/NVRs accommodating some 700 cameras and integration to the 'Open Options' access control system.
The Milton Hershey School is a private philanthropic boarding school founded and funded by chocolate industrialist Milton Hershey and his wife Catherine. The school serves underprivileged students of various backgrounds and includes a pre-school, a primary school and a high school. With over six billion dollars in assets on some 500 acres of land, the Milton Hershey School is one of the wealthiest schools in the world. It currently serves over 1300 students and plans to grow to 2000 students by 2010.
Cathexis has provided a hybrid solution, with mixed IP and analogue cameras on site running on both Wavelet and MPEG compression technologies. The central control facility has a virtual matrix, a mapping facility and an alarm management system.
The integration with the access control system enables operators to 'mine' the database on the Cathexis system to easily find access events and associated video footage. The alarm management system ensures that access transgressions such as anti-passback are flagged for investigation.
