A Vesda aspirating smoke detection system manufactured by Vision Systems will provide early smoke warning in Coca-Cola and Schweppes' distribution warehouse in East Kilbride.
The warehouse is 22 m high and stores approximately 14 000 pallets of Coca-Cola bottles and cans which are handled by an automatic storage retrieval system. When a customer order is received, a crane automatically despatches the product eliminating the need for human intervention.
Three Vesda LaserPlus smoke detection systems were supplied, designed and commissioned by ADT Fire and Security and installed in the roof of the warehouse to detect smoke at high level.
The Vesda units are connected to a Minerva alarm system. When an abnormality is detected a signal is relayed to a control room which in turn alerts the local fire service which can rapidly identify the source of the fire from a text message on the Minerva control panel.
Vesda is designed to detect a fire in its early, incipient stage to allow for controlled intervention so it is ideally suited to protecting environments which contain a high level of automatic machinery.
