With Harmonic's new RFID BabySafe tag, in conjunction with other RFID equipment and specialised software, South African hospitals have the potential to make security around their wards iron-clad," says Barry Baetu, MD of Harmonic Group.
With a comprehensive system comprising of RFID and barcoding, Baetu explains, hospital management will be able to effortlessly eliminate theft of hospital equipment and furniture while ensuring complete patient safety with access control and computerised prescriptions.
"The BabySafe tag will set off an alarm if any unauthorised person removes the baby from the ward, or tries to cut or remove the tag from the wrist," says Baetu. "This will put parents' minds more at ease when entrusting their newborns to hospital staff."
Each tag has a unique identification number, read by RFID readers and registered on the computer mainframe, making it impossible to merely 'switch' labels, as is possible with conventional wristbands.
Baetu says: "Making our hospitals a safer place is something Harmonic Group feels passionate about and this tag is just one of the ways we want to contribute to the overall modernisation and upgrading of the South African healthcare sector."

* Low battery warning.
