X-ray scanner

July 2007 Asset Management

Factory managers and executives of companies involved in the manufacturing of products have many issues to concern themselves with. They are concerned about health and safety matters, raw material supplies and stock levels, labour matters, production deadlines, quality control and stock losses.

Stock losses can take many forms. The losses can be caused by wastage in the production process, administration mistakes, raw material being signed for but not received and raw material and finished product being removed from the manufacturing facility illegally.

Naturally, one of the ways to prevent stock being removed from the premises is to search the staff as they leave. This has its own potential industrial relations problems and in any event searches are superficial and can never reveal items that are well hidden or even swallowed or hidden in the body cavities.

This is where the DRS SecureScan Digital Security X-Ray scanner can assist the security operation. By scanning a person in less than 10 s the operator is able to ascertain if there are any illegal items on the person. The DRS SecureScan does not reveal any body surface details and this preserves the privacy and dignity of the person being scanned. The effective X-ray dosage used in each scan is less than 2 μSv and thus the risk to the people being scanned is very low while the benefit to the manufacturing facility is great in that they have now closed a ‘loop-hole’.
