To bring the convenience and security of biometrics to an increasingly mobile workforce, Identix has introduced BioTouch, a completely self-contained mobile fingerprint verification system that fits into a laptop's PCMCIA slot.
BioTouch secures a portable PC and its contents by controlling access using Identix's BioLogon Security software to restrict access to enterprise and Internet applications. A BioTouch user simply presses a button on the side of the computer (just like a modem port) and out slides the fingerprint reader. The user touches a finger to the small optical sensor and the finger is matched. Only preregistered fingerprints are permitted access to a BioTouch equipped device and its contents. No external cables are required.
BioTouch PC cards are bundled with BioLogon 2.0 Client for Windows, which delivers the precedent in speed, accuracy and flexibility in fingerprint security. The BioLogon 2.0 software suite supports Windows 95, 98 and NT4 operating systems. It provides a range of functionality, including standalone and network logon, data encryption and decryption, application locking, a biometrically secure password bank, and multilayered security for use with smartcards.
