Pietermaritzburg-based Electromatic will in future trade as Shurlok International. This has come about because of the strong brand image that Shurlok has created and maintained both locally and overseas with major automotive manufacturers, and the fact the name Electromatic already exists in Europe.
Shurlok International, part of JSE-listed Control Instruments Group, has gone through a good growth period over the past two years with the takeover of Pretoria-based Dupec Electronics in 1999 and more recently Conlog Automotive that was based in Durban.
To cater for this growth, Shurlok has had to expand its facilities in Pietermaritzburg and has just completed a whole new wing to bring the total production area to 2493 m2. The surface mount (SMD) production capacity was increased to 25 000 placements per hour with the addition of a new Mydata high-speed placement machine. A second DEC 265 automatic solder paste screening station was added to cater for the volume of PCBs being populated.
