Honeywell hosted a signing ceremony with Guohua Company at the Beijing International Convention Centre in February to officiate a US $10,5 million deal that will allow Honeywell to provide extra low voltage (ELV) systems for the Beijing National Stadium.
Honeywell won the approvals from the Beijing Olympic Committee and the Beijing Construction Committees during the tender stage, and work started in March. Once completed, Honeywell's ELV system will integrate the stadium's 15 sub systems including general building automation, fire and security systems. The system also provides a sophisticated platform for the different technological components to interact with each other so that the spectator will have a seamless and efficient experience whether it is buying the tickets through the electronic ticketing system, or watching the games via the cable and satellite TV facilities.
"Honeywell offers technology for building automation that allows developers to use our intelligent ELV system to integrate the diverse technological components needed to support a project such as the National Stadium.
Management can also use the advanced systems to streamline operations, increase productivity and reduce energy consumption," says Wing On Yau, vice president and general manager of Honeywell Building Solutions, North Asia.
"The National Stadium is a showcase for the technological advancements that can be seen throughout China. We are delighted to work with a company such as Honeywell that can provide us with the expertise that we can trust," says a Guohua representative.
"This National Stadium project is a perfect opportunity to highlight how the right technology by a company such as Honeywell can provide not only a safe and comfortable environment, but also a greener environment for athletes and spectators alike. It is a win-win situation, and fulfils the three missions for the Olympic: a People's Olympic; a High Tech Olympic; a Green Olympic," says George Ko, general manager of Honeywell Building Solutions China.
The National Stadium will be in the spotlight as the venue to host the opening and closing ceremonies, as well as the main stadium for track and field competitions. Located in Olympic Park, the stadium spans a total construction area of 258 000 square metres and will cater to 91 000 spectators during the games. The project is expected to be completed by December.
