A two-way radio is often the unsung hero in the retail security environment.
Matthew Skey and Marc Lurie at LA Radio have many tales to tell when it comes to the adventures of security guards using Motorola two-way radios in the quest to secure South African shopping malls, restaurants, community venues/events and the like.
"In a situation such as the recent attempted and foiled robbery at Northgate Shopping Mall - if it was not for simple analog two-way radio and quick-thinking security guards, the criminals probably would have gotten away with it," says Marc Lurie of LA Radio.
The bottom line is there is no reason yet for the retail environment to consider moving away from analog - and it looks likely to remain the affordable, effective choice. Simply stated - with analog, no infrastructure is required to operate a system, which can be used very effectively as the communication link between two or more security guards. Also, with a two-way radio system, a guard tends to go with his instinct as he does not have to consider the expense of a mobile call before he contacts a supervisor to alert him to what may - or may not - turn out to be a hunch that something is amiss.
"More and more, the two-way radio is becoming indispensable in retail security and other environments." says Suzaan Sauerman, Motorola Networks & Enterprise Mobility Solutions channel marketing manager: Middle East & Africa.
