EMS has released for general sale, its QID active tags and readers following successful trials on a number of mines. The winch control product provides a controller and four readers for installation to the dragline winch system. The readers communicate wirelessly with the controller and are powered by standard rechargeable mine batteries.

All personnel are fitted with RFID active tags on their cap lamps and with no additional software, the wireless reader net providing an invisible zone. Personnel entry into the area automatically shuts down the winch. Accidental operation of the winch is further controlled with only designated RFID tagged operators being allowed to start the system.
