RCG Systems SA has introduced FxGuard Pro, a biometric access control system with a face recognition technology solution suited to the mining industry.
It is the first face recognition system that runs primarily on TCP/IP and integrates easily with the corporate LAN.
"It is the most accurate facial identification and verification technology available," says RCG Systems SA operations manager, Mike Cox. "The technology is user-friendly, highly intuitive and robust enough for the mining industry."
"The system can also help reduce security costs at automated, unmanned entry points. This is because the software is embedded in the device and no dedicated computer is required. Maintenance costs can therefore be significantly reduced," says Cox.
A second product, RCG's FxAlert, is a face recognition and verification software engine able to identify unauthorised people entering a mine or specific areas within the mine.
FxAlert compares faces from live video feeds against a stored database of face prints, with greater speed, accuracy and effectiveness. The system is capable of 'one-to-many' facial identification searches at a rate of 750 000 records per second.
"With mines becoming increasingly under pressure to address illegal access and implement more efficient time and attendance procedures, there is a need for solutions that are easy to implement and that work," says Cox.
