Cognitec Systems has added new capabilities to its FaceVACS technology to process 3-dimensional sensor data in addition to standard digital images.
Cognitec is including 3D data processing functionality in a new version of its FaceVACS-SDK Software Development Kit, which is now available to partners. This new release 4.0 is a logical extension of the existing versions of FaceVACS-SDK. It enables systems integrators to take advantage of integrating 3D sensors into their products and solutions.
So-called 3D sensors have been offered by specialised device manufacturers for some time. Recently, some of those sensors have become suitable for face recognition in terms of resolution, speed and price. 3D sensors measure the 'depth' or 'range' information of an object so that its shape can be derived.
The use of 3D sensor information can considerably enhance recognition performance in cases where difficult lighting situations and position variations occur. This is especially useful in outdoor scenarios and with non-cooperative or casual users.
