Optelecom-NKF has developed a new series of bandwidth efficient and cost-effective MPEG-2 and Advanced MPEG-4 video codecs: the C-series. It is designed to stream video with the highest quality and lowest latency possible over IP networks and is compatible with Optelecom-NKF's NVR and MX Software Suite.
The C-series codecs all feature very high performance MPEG encoders and decoders with the ability to stream three different qualities simultaneously, each stream optimised for its purpose: displaying, recording or intelligent scene analysis. In combination with IGMP multicast, these features enable very efficient use of available network capacity. In addition, all codecs are designed and tested to operate under industrial conditions, characterised by a wide temperature range (-40 to +74°C) and mechanical stress (vibration and shock).
"The C-series is a keystone technology that facilitates the migration from traditional CCTV systems to comprehensive IP network-based video solutions," says Edmund Ludwig, Optelecom-NKF's president and CEO. Based on a unique architecture, the C-series encoders and decoders combine DSP (digital signal processing) and FPGA (field-programmable gate array) technology. This combination optimises the interaction between software and hardware, resulting in low bandwidth, DVD-quality video, low latency and superior reliability, making Optelecom-NKF's C-Series MPEG-2 and Advanced MPEG-4 codecs well suited for use across wide ranging traffic and transportation, industrial environments, and safety and security applications.
Like all Optelecom-NKF products, the C-series codecs carry a five-year warranty and is exclusively supported and distributed in South Africa by Letlhaka Technologies.
