Sony has unveiled its first intelligent, network speed dome camera, which offers 360° endless rotation, allowing users to precisely track objects surrounding the unit. As one of the new generation of Sony cameras that carries out advanced image processing inside the camera, the SNC-RX550P brings superior functionality to the high performance product segment of speed domes, with added intelligent technology that allows for more effective surveillance.
Part of the IPELA range of IP-based network video monitoring and videoconferencing products and solutions, Sony intelligent speed dome cameras come into their own in busy environments where operations may be at times either attended or unattended. Speed domes have already proven to be extremely advantageous in transport, retail and city centre installations where one camera can be used to monitor a wide area and track moving objects freely. In 2005 speed domes made up 30% of security camera sales across EMEA.
"The SNC-RX550P brings intelligence to the speed dome market, allowing busy security teams to gain more from their technology," says Will Klopper, manager: Professional Products at Sony SA, "In addition to monitoring for activity, information is pushed to operators, which enables them to use the information available in the most effective way."
Intelligent Object Detection and Intelligent Motion Detection are two features that actively alert security personnel to incidents so they can turn their attention to the relevant camera. Intelligent Object Detection identifies items, such as bags that have been left unattended or abandoned cars, and trigger the appropriate alarm. Intelligent Motion Detection distinguishes between multiple moving subjects and environmental conditions, such as swaying trees, therefore reducing the number of motion-related false alarms. As this functionality appears in-camera, as opposed to in the control room, workflow, storage and bandwidth utilisation are optimised.
High-speed 360° endless panning and tilt with auto-flip, allows uninterrupted viewing of a subject as it moves underneath the camera, enabling seamless surveillance of a person or moving object. Powerful 26x optical zoom allows users to focus in on small or distant objects with exceptional clarity
The camera is versatile, allowing users to tailor the solution to meet their surveillance needs and network environment. Three compression formats: JPEG, MPEG-4 and H.264 are available, whilst the Dual Encoding Capability enables the camera to generate both JPEG and MPEG-4 images simultaneously, providing a solution to situations where users need to monitor a high quality JPEG image locally and send a lower resolution MPEG-4 stream to the archive over a WAN.
