Johnson Controls SA has made major hardware and software enhancements to its Metasys building management system. It now features a broader family of network automation engines that will reduce the cost of integration to BACnet, LonWorks, current and legacy Johnson Controls systems.
Says Neil Cameron, division manager at Johnson Controls SA, "These enhancements illustrate Johnson Controls' commitment to continual enhancement of its solution. Integration and Web-based capabilities are two key differentiators with our solutions and the latest hardware and software enhancements build on these key areas for companies considering a building management solution."
In addition, the system allows integration of its N2 fieldbus directly into Ethernet networks. This enables field controllers in remote locations to be connected to supervisory components using an organisation's existing information technology (IT) infrastructure. By eliminating wiring and supervisory components, the installed system cost is reduced. It also provides greater flexibility in locating controllers, since they do not need to be tied to their own wired network. For example, this would be particularly useful in a campus situation as satellite facilities can be monitored and controlled over the campus' existing Ethernet network.
New data search and analysis capabilities have been added to the Metasys system's user interface to make it easier for operators to locate, command and trend system objects. System security and application flexibility have been increased in the application and data server. One option allows the database to be located remotely from application software so that users can combine databases from various applications on a single server.
"Our continuous expansion of the Metasys building management system is designed to meet the needs of more facilities, from the smallest standalone building to large campuses and networks spread over wide geographic areas. These latest enhancements further Johnson Controls' aim of integrating facility systems with the information technology that is key to the organisations housed in those facilities," Cameron concludes.
