T-Systems South Africa has spearheaded the creation of the South African Laboratory for Network Security Products and Services (SALNSPS), along with several key partners.
The focus of the SALNSPS will be on innovation, high-technology trends and extreme network security, and is set up in conjunction with local and international academic institutions - including the University of Johannesburg (UJ) and the University of Cape Town (UCT) - along with IBM South Africa and Cisco South Africa, two companies that have extensive experience in network and security technologies.
According to T-Systems' Dr Andrew Hutchison, although the laboratory will have a preference in research and development in the area of network security, this will not necessarily be exclusive, and research and development in other security related areas will also be included. "The laboratory will do theoretical research and development, practical testing and prototyping, and practical development to the level of proof of concept of security products and services," says Hutchison.
As the driver behind the project, T-Systems will have one main laboratory environment in Johannesburg and another one, with a subset of hardware and software capabilities, in Cape Town.
"T-Systems will ensure office space to run the laboratory and - together with Cisco and IBM - will ensure the necessary hardware and software to test and run the products and services under investigation," says Hutchison.
