The Came difference at Phalaborwa Mining Company (PMC) came after numerous trucks and train accidents on the mining plant. Industrial heavy-duty vehicles were crossing railway lines with lots of dust that created limited visibility for both truck and train drivers. The only thing that the drivers were relying on was the truck or train horns.
Alarms and General from Phalaborwa embarked on the project to reduce the accidents by using Came road barrier products. Along the railway lines the first three pairs of Came photo electric cells (DOC/E) are installed to close Came high performance road barriers (Boom gate) and activate sirens and turn warning flashing lights on. The second two pairs of DOC/E were installed to keep the road barriers closed and flashing lights (Kairo) on. Then the train will pass the third three pairs of DOC/E to keep the road barrier closed. Once the train passed the last pair of DOC/E the road barrier will close for at least 10 seconds then open the road barriers for the trucks to pass safely.
In relation to the initial goal of providing a safe working environment for the truck and train drivers, Came road barrier has achieved the goal with ease. Working on the dusty and high climate temperature of up to 42°C that created a challenge for the electronic board and other electrical component to overheat and break down, but Came motors are tested over 1,2 million times before the initial mass production on product to ensure reliability and durability. This is clearly displayed at the Phalaborwa Mining Company. Came road barriers have a waterproof and dustproof seal to protect electronic components on the road barrier. Came 24 V system allows for extra safety, as well as emergency operations in case of power failure.
