High level electronic CCTV surveillance and digital recording systems manufacturer, Thales Advanced Engineering, has developed an automatic screen alert system that streamlines control room procedures and improves the ability of staff to detect incidents and security breaches.
Known as Osiris, the technology enables the control room screen to be divided up into 4, 9 or 16 segments, each division depicting a view from a camera. Each camera has an array of 192 video motion sensors that can be independently configured by the operator to trigger an alarm when motion occurs in that portion of the image.
"In normal operation while no motion is detected, the screen is black. However, the moment movement is detected the image from the camera concerned is displayed on the control room screen. This immediately alerts operators to a possible problem and they can quickly take appropriate action," says Thales joint managing director, Dr Bennie Coetzer.
"As soon as the motion trigger is activated to display the camera view on the control room screen, it also activates the digital video recorder to record the images being obtained from that particular camera, ensuring that visual evidence of any incident is obtained for further investigation and as evidence in the event that prosecution may later take place."
Security management can select and configure the length of time that the system will display the image on the control room screen after motion has ceased. The Osiris system also shows up cameras that have no video signal by displaying a blue screen. It integrates fully into the Thales Argus digital CCTV system and can be incrementally applied to cater for very large systems where the deployment of 150 cameras or more may be required. Highly versatile, it can also be deployed as a standalone system or integrate with any other security system.
