R&D Screening Technologies recently supplied a large number of baggage X-ray security systems to protect the large number of VIPs visiting South Africa for the inauguration of the new President on 16 June 1999.
Whilst keeping within the allocated budget, the SAPS-Presidential Protection Unit, together with the Department of Foreign Affairs, made a last minute decision on the number of units that would be required to protect the VIPs who would be staying at various hotels throughout Gauteng.
In a record time of five weeks from date of order to date of delivery to site, R&D Screening placed 22 Heimann Hi-Scan X-ray systems at several hotels in Sandton (10 units) and Pretoria (12 units) where the VIPs were accommodated. With the co-operation of SAPS-Presidential Protection Unit, R&D Screening was then able to install and commission all the units within two days.
In September 1998, R&D Screening also supplied 18 Heimann Hi-Scan X-ray systems for use at the NAM Summit in Durban. This equipment included one industrial unit able to screen sizes ranging from the smallest parcel up to 900 x 700 mm boxed crates.
