The Provincial Administration of the Western Cape (PAWC) has awarded a tender to supply and install computer related items to two multinational IT companies - First Technology and Sourcecom. Part of the tender is to install biometrics products and Cape Town-based company, Biometrics.co.za, was chosen to supply BioAccess, BioTime and BioRegister from its range of products to the PAWC.
The first project will be the rollout of the social services project to register and track street children in the Western Cape. The street children have been an ongoing problem to the authorities, and using Biometrics.co.za products, social services are confident that they will put an end to this problem.
This is an ongoing project and hopefully will be rolled out not only in the Cape Province, but also nationwide. The pilot has been running successfully for the last two years in Cape Town.
