Pick 'n Pay is to install radio transmitters on trolleys, saying nearly 2000 are stolen every six months. Danie Boshoff, a general manager of the giant Pick 'n Pay chain, said stolen trolleys cost the company more than R1 million annually. Up to 2000 were pinched every six months.
"There are companies that, at a small cost, put a radio transmitter in the trolley and it will be easier for us to track it," Boshoff said, adding that the cost per trolley could be as low as R10. "I would imagine that we would see the first phase of those type of things in the second half of next year," he said.
