Over the past few years Shatterprufe has completed a security upgrade of its CCTV equipment. A deciding factor in selecting the right equipment was to ensure that such equipment and subsequent recordings would be admissible as real evidence in a court of law and that the maximum probative value is attached to these recordings.
Modular Communications and Shatterprufe therefore employed the services of Marius Jonker of Jonker and Associates as well as Craig Jessop of Jessop and Nel Attorneys to generate a document to ensure that they were equipped with the necessary knowledge to introduce digital CCTV systems at Shatterprufe facilities as a real value security tool.
In addition to this knowledge it was also important that the digital recording equipment enjoyed international (particularly UK and European) recognition as a safe product to be used in a court of law. To this end the Dallmeier digital video recorders were selected as they have this certification from the Kalagate Imagery Bureau in the UK.
Without this knowledge the investment in a sophisticated recording system will be of little value if such recordings were declared inadmissible evidence or alternatively have little or no probative value.
To this end, Modular and Shatterprufe have made this legal opinion available via hi tech security publications for the benefit of the industry. Full extracts of the documentation as well as Dallmeier digital video recorders are available from Modular Communications.
In addition an opinion is also available on the law pertaining to video recording of employees in the workplace which is being reviewed by Helaine Leggat of Buys Inc in the light of the latest laws concerning Internet, media and IP law under which digital CCTV systems and the transmission of such information falls.
