A compact, modular 16-camera CCTV electronic surveillance system, ideal for parking security and for event-based recording applications at weighbridges or warehouses for goods in and out, is now available from Johannesburg-based electronic surveillance systems designer and manufacturer, Thales Advanced Engineering.
The system provides high-level picture quality and reliability and incorporates Argus 'frame-freezing' technology that allows selected single images to be digitally stored for easy comparison of people or goods in and out.
In a typical parking security set-up, the Thales system allows eight entry and eight exit lanes - or any other configuration up to 16 cameras - to be continuously monitored. The freeze-frame capability allows images of each vehicle and the people to be stored and quickly and easily accessed when necessary.
"Entry and exit events can therefore be linked, allowing security staff to compare photographs of cars and people in and out. A person who leaves without any record of entry, is immediately suspect. The photographs can be securely stored in a database indefinitely and can be easily accessed to assist police investigations or be presented as evidence in a prosecution," says Dr Bennie Coetzer, joint managing director of Thales.
"In other applications the system can be used to store images of overloaded vehicles at weighbridges with data such as axle loads, dates and times recorded and stored with each image, and a similar concept can be applied to control and record the movement of goods in and out of warehouses."
The Thales system can be expanded to cater for application growth and, where some users may require more sophisticated features such as integrated video motion detection (VMD) technology and integration to external alarm and access detection systems, these features can be quickly and simply built into the standard system.
