Five years after it was initiated a business empowerment exercise has come full circle and achieved its objectives.
In 1995 Gray Security Services created a 50/50 joint venture with Phunanani Holdings to launch Phakamani Security Services in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga.
Recently, the Executive Director of Gray, Alastair Macintosh, announced that Gray had sold its 50% of the company back to Phunanani for a nominal sum.
"This whole exercise has been extremely satisfying for all concerned parties. We at Gray have once again met our often stated philosophy of providing meaningful contributions to black empowerment, while Phakamani, with a turnover of R6 million, is now able to go it alone as a viable business," Macintosh said.
The Managing Director of Phakamani, Ben Mokoena, said he was delighted at the successful outcome of the exercise.
"This is a textbook example of how successful empowerment can be achieved when big business displays the integrity and commitment we have experienced from Alastair and his company.
"This should not detract, however, from the effort and dedication invested in the project by all of us at Phakamani. We gave it our all and everyone involved has been vindicated," Mokoena said.
