UltraLink Traffic Flow helps retailers improve store operations

November 2003 Access Control & Identity Management, Residential Estate (Industry)

Sensormatic has introduced UltraLink Traffic Flow, an integrated solution to help retailers improve store operations, operate more efficiently and increase sales opportunities through accurate customer counts.

The UltraLink Traffic Flow system helps detect and count shoppers entering and leaving the store, timestamps each count and delivers the information in realtime to a central location for management's review. The system provides retailers with valuable information for judging the success of sales promotions, determining sales closure rates, scheduling employees, and designing store layouts and merchandising displays.

UltraLink Traffic Flow delivers data through the store's network to a central location where it can be sorted and analysed on a single store basis or across the entire chain. Through a comprehensive exception-based reporting package, retailers can generate reports in a variety of graphical or statistical formats. These reports can then be linked to video from the store site for visual documentation.

Jamie Rosand, vice president of commercial sales and marketing for Sensormatic, said traffic counting is a natural extension of the Sensormatic product line, which retailers have relied on for more than 30 years to help safeguard their inventories.

"UltraLink Traffic Flow continues the evolution of merging traditional loss prevention programs with operations. Through the use of IT networks, it provides retailers with the realtime data they need to help improve the performance and profitability of their businesses," Rosand said. "This latest module is the first of several components to be released that will further expand the traditional role of Sensormatic systems."

UltraLink Traffic Flow works as a standalone product or in conjunction with the UltraLink alarm management system component, which provides automatic centralised reports on electronic article surveillance (EAS) alarms on such variables as elapsed response time, reason for alarm, location and system status. UltraLink Alarm Management helps retailers manage their loss prevention programs more efficiently, helping to ensure continued return on their initial investments. Both UltraLink products will also work in combination with SmartEAS Reporting data mining software.

"We have designed the SmartEAS system around a series of modules that retailers can easily add to their system with the quick installation of an expansion board and software," Rosand said. "As we continue to add functions, retailers can incorporate those that best meet their specific needs and provide a much higher return on investment."
