Sensormatic SA, the southern African business partner of Sensormatic Electronics Corporation, part of the global Tyco Fire and Security Group, has announced that it has merged with Techpro, a long-established independent security systems integrator specialising in the entertainment and hospitality industries.
According to David Pople, Sensormatic SA marketing manager, the move provides a platform for both businesses to offer greatly improved service to customers and to springboard into new market areas.
"Over the past year or two, the South African security industry has already experienced a degree of consolidation, having seen substantial investment from international security companies such as Securicor, ADT and Chubb," said Pople. "The merger of Sensormatic SA and Techpro is however the most significant yet between major local companies. With the industry moving rapidly to a digital platform, the market is demanding more sophisticated design solutions, as well as products and services that deliver efficiencies beyond traditional security. This greater critical mass will enable us to deliver on both of these promises."
Sensormatic SA has established a dominant position within the South African urban surveillance market, as well as in providing loss-prevention and surveillance solutions to the local retail industry. It is rapidly broadening its base internationally, running projects in the Middle East, the Far East as well as Eastern Europe. Techpro specialises primarily in casinos and hotels, meeting the bulk of the unique surveillance requirements of these markets. The combined entity promises combined annual turnover in excess of R200 million, making it arguably the largest private and locally-owned security company within South Africa.
Comments Iain Foxon, Techpro managing director, "Sensormatic's and Techpro's businesses are highly complementary, and we envisage that our customers will benefit substantially from Sensormatic's world-class product range and its infrastructure of customer support and delivery."
