Hot on the heels of its successful inspection by the SABS for ISO 9001-2000 requirements, a South African gas safety product company based in Cape Town, SureGas, has won two significant overseas tenders.
In Dubai earlier this year, it concluded a joint venture with Cylingas, a subsidiary of a leading industrial group, Enoc. The partnership has already won three important tenders involving gas detection systems in the Madinat Jumeirah complex. This huge complex - comprising hotels, restaurants, health spas and villas - will cost R5 billion to build.
To date within the complex, SureGas has installed specially designed pipe-to-pipe sensors that will detect minute leaks in a gas pipe contained in a sleeve. In addition, SureGas has installed its Sentinel PC-based atmospheric gas detection system. Initially, this will have 89 sensors but it is likely that more sensors will be installed at a later stage. A significant feature of this system is its flexibility as it can handle up to 900 sensors on one PC, thereby ensuring there will be no significant additional work involved in installing any incremental sensors.
SureGas has tendered on other projects in the region which, if successful, will be worth about R2,5 million to the company.
On the other side of the world in Australia, the company has been awarded a contract to install atmospheric gas detection systems in Origin Energy's Queensland underground valve stations. Origin Energy is a leading gas supplier nationwide and this contract was won through SureGas' distributor in Australia, Tradelink. SureGas expects to be awarded up to 600 additional installations in other states.
