Surge Technology's HDO 280/T surge arresters are designed to protect industrial and domestic alarm systems from damage due to lightning or overvoltage conditions during our local lightning season. All types of alarms may be protected by the HDO 280/T, including burglar and fire alarms and CCTV systems.
It is important that power to the alarm systems is protected even if a UPS system is in use. The HDO 280/T surge arresters fit easily inside most controllers and should be installed on the power feed to the control panel. These units are designed to withstand peak surge currents of 40 kA and to simultaneously protect both live and neutral.
The need for protection is greatly increased when the alarm systems are linked between various buildings as is often the case at large industrial sites. In these applications it is also necessary to install protection at the satellite controllers or repeaters, as well as on the communications cables linking the various systems.
