ADT Security has installed satellite-tracking devices in all its response vehicles around the country to manage its fleet more effectively and further improve response times to clients. The tracking technology is seamlessly integrated with the alarm receiving and monitoring system and software, the result of an extensive development and testing project that lasted several years.
This move enables ADT Security to monitor and actively manage the exact positions of its response vehicles at all times. Using the satellite tracking system, areas of high crime can be pinpointed and response time can be improved by better positioning of the vehicles, thereby maximising their availability.
ADT Security's group technical manager, Terry van Zyl, says: "We can map out the street crime high-risk areas and position our armed response teams where they are needed most. If an emergency call has already been made we are now able to reroute the closest available armed response vehicle to the scene. This could not have been achieved with a standard tracking system. That is why we did a lot of work to integrate the new technology into our core systems."
The patrol patterns and daily activities of the response vehicles and the regularity and efficiency of supervisor and manager visits are now monitored using this technology. "The satellite tracking gives us the opportunity to be even more hands-on and deliver a proactive, rather than reactive, service to our clients," says van Zyl.
