In an asset verification project, the SA Institute of Medical Research (SAIMR) has installed an asset tracking and management system from M-R Systems to track and control its assets at over 50 branches and offices throughout South Africa.
M-R Systems is believed to be the only company in SA to offer the marketplace a standalone asset tracking and management system.
The system is being used to keep track of more than R120 million in fixed and moveable assets which the institute has accumulated over the past 70 years.
The BarNone system, a sophisticated bar code-based system running on a Windows platform, is being used to track laboratory equipment, furniture and fittings at all SAIMR laboratories around the country – most of which are situated at major hospitals.
Three, two-man teams have been assigned to match recorded assets to physical assets at the more than 50 sites around SA. A company spokesman said that the installation of M-R Systems’ BarNone system is being implemented in conjunction with an Impact-based enterprise resource planning (ERP) system.
