XtraLife for vehicle barriers

July 2003 Asset Management

Although best known for its range of turnstiles, Turnstar Systems also produce high-endurance vehicle barriers. The Traffic Master is a high-specification industrial barrier designed to deliver long-lasting, problem-free operation.

The key to its durability is Turnstar's XtraLife barrier mechanism that combines harmonic motion-control with triple shock-absorbing buffers. As the arm raises and lowers, this combination dramatically reduces mechanical stress. "Less stress means longer life. The geometry of the XtraLife mechanism's harmonic motion is factory-set, ensuring that minimum loads are placed on the motor bearings and rod-end bearings," explains Pat Cooke, Turnstar's head of engineering.

The Traffic Master's reliability is further enhanced by CE-certified microprocessor logics and loop detectors that are compatible with all access control systems. Powered by a Robberts 100%-duty 220 V, 80 W geared torque motor, the XtraLife mechanism is zinc-plated for high corrosion resistance and is housed in a heavy-duty 2 mm steel cabinet.

In keeping with Turnstar's intelligent design, the cabinet features both a lockable top cowling and side-door, allowing easy access for installation and inspection purposes. The cabinet is available in KAL-GARD primed and powder-coated mild steel; powder-coated 3CR12; or stainless steel.
