Forensic intelligence system

May 2003 Surveillance

At IFSEC 2003 Crime Solutions launched Spyral, a new forensic intelligence system combining a unique DNA marking process with a high-resolution, image-capture unit. Spyral has been designed for high security applications but is also suitable for small business and domestic properties. It addresses the critical need for a system that both prevents burglaries and helps the police catch criminals.

Spyral is an intelligent system that has been designed to either stand alone or be retrofitted into other existing security systems. Advanced microwave detection protects against tampering and senses the correct distance from the camera lens and dispersion mechanism. The digital high-resolution, colour camera takes images only when the intruder is at the optimum distance from the unit ensuring good facial recognition.

Spyral is an intelligent unit and contains a number of built-in features to prevent accidental activation and to ensure that the system is easy to install and operate. If an intruder enters a high value protected area via an unauthorised route, Spyral will activate, taking visual information as well as dispersing a fine spray of unique DNA code. This spray is invisible in natural light but glows bright red under UV. It can bond harmlessly to skin, hair and clothes and has billions of different available combinations. Each unit contains one of these unique codes, which is held on a secure database. Once detected it can be removed, analysed and cross-referenced with the database, irrefutably linking the suspect to the time and location of the crime.
