Iris recognition is an accurate method of biometric identification and is being used for India’s Unique Identification Numbers (UIDAI) project together with photographic and fingerprint identification.
This is a massive project aimed at registering the majority of India’s 1,2 billion people. Iris recognition was chosen because of a number of factors.
The advantages of iris recognition are:
* Iris recognition is more than 12 times as accurate as fingerprint identification.
* Iris patterns are stable from a very early age and are less affected by factors such as work injuries.
* Contactless and hands-free iris recognition is considered non-invasive, hygienic and easy to learn.
Iritech is one of the companies which has seen its iris cameras certified by India’s STQC authority for the UIDAI project in India. The company manufactures a range of both ready-to-use and OEM iris recognition products. These include mono/binocular cameras, modules, software libraries and software development kits. In particular, Iritech’s iris recognition algorithms were acknowledged by the US government’s NIST IREX test as the top-performer in terms of accuracy and interoperability.
Iris recognition can be used in numerous applications, including:
* Fast non-contact access control for building or secure premises.
* Customer enrolment and identification for banks and retail stores.
* Passenger identification for airlines.
* Road side identification for law authorities.
* Detainee/prisoner identification.
Any application requiring fast accurate identification can make use of iris recognition. Iritech has excellent solutions at reasonable costs.
