iLegal 2011 will be held this year on 25 October 2011 at the Southern Sun, OR Tambo in Johannesburg. The keynote this year will be presented by Jeff Corkill from Edith Cowan University in Perth, Australia and is titled ‘The value of an intelligence driven approach’.
As a former Australian military intelligence officer who shifted to the resource sector, focusing primarily on the security intelligence needs of the precious minerals industry, Corkill is in the perfect position to expound on the effective use of video footage for intelligence gathering purposes.
CCTV is worth far more than a picture, an intrusion alarm, a resource for accidents claims or an early warning system. Analysing video images and extracting intelligence delivers information of value to security and operations managers to enhance performance and, effectively, secure the bottom line. Corkill will elaborate on the benefits of effective use of intelligence based on his years of experience in the public and private sector.
Following his work in the mining industry, Corkill entered academia at Edith Cowan University in Perth in 2007 and he now lectures in intelligence and security and is in the final stages of his PhD in the field of intelligence analysis.
He travels extensively to Hong Kong, Singapore and other parts of the Far East as part of academic lectures and work with postgraduate students in those countries. He has held a number of security management roles in the resource sector and consults in the security and intelligence field. His previous consultancy work has included working with the UN and private companies primarily on issues related to intelligence and surveillance, and he has been involved with CCTV work with city centres such as Sydney and Perth as well as Australian Customs and police forces.
