School management system

December 2000 Access Control & Identity Management

The Softcon access control system, SoftWin, was recently installed at the private school College st-Etienne, in Strasbourg, France, by the Softcon distributor SAMEP. The system is not only an access control system, but has been configured to perform a variety of management functions which have been implemented without the need for software changes.

Leaderware's surveillance skills course provided by Dr Craig Donald has been a major highlight for the company in 2002.

Building on training provided in South Africa, the UK and Canada, the course has been provided to a number of major and high profile institutions in southern Africa this year and has been extended to Australia.

Focusing on observation skills, body language and incident behaviour, the course provides essential skills for the detection of incident conditions and effective monitoring. Managers, supervisors, and operators sometimes working in teams have all benefited from the training. With the world's major mining groups having utilised the training, including De Beers, Anglo American, Goldfields, BHP Billiton and RioTinto, precious resources such as diamonds, platinum and gold are all effectively represented.

In South Africa, the course has also been provided to both Sun International and Tsogo Sun in the casino industry, while clients such as Eskom, BMW, Toyota and the Post Office show that the training principles apply across different industries. Linked to the effective selection of personnel using the SAMAE assessment process, the training is seen to provide high calibre staff for operations where effective performance is essential and where there is a strong professional management of the surveillance function.
