The electronic security solutions offered by Siemens Building Technologies (SBT) are focused on providing a complete solution for the protection of all assets and people within an organisation. This is achieved by applying an extraordinary combination of leading edge hardware and software to satisfy the unique requirements of each client.
National reserve banks, airports, strategic complexes such as national telecommunications operations centres, precious metal and minerals mines, power stations or power distribution infrastructures all demand enormous initial investment and operating capital. Protecting and gaining from their investment is paramount to the investor as well as the management of all such facilities and businesses alike.
A business partnership with Siemens Building Technologies (SBT) offers its client peace of mind in knowing that they are being provided with an intelligent integrated security and asset protection solution, using world best practice in security technologies and a relationship of absolute trust. So says Mario Ferreira of Siemens Building Technologies SA.
With more than 22 years of experience in the African market and access to the Siemens global network of innovation, SBT has the skills, the products, the R&D capability and the support to provide a single source solution to every security and asset protection requirement encompassing the following disciplines:
* CCTV surveillance and digital recording: The system uses Siemens cameras and the locally developed CCTV matrix to capture and distribute the video images while digital recorders provide the functionality of simultaneous recording and reviewing of the video images.
* Access control and time and attendance: The Babylon software system, which has a SAP certified interface, provides a user-friendly graphical user interface (GUI) as well as extensive programmable management to the access control, as well as employee time and attendance. The hardware component of the access control and time and attendance solutions includes a system controller and reader.
Says Ferreira, "The reader could be either a proximity card reader, an asset tag reader or a biometric identity verification technology such as a fingerprint reader or an iris recognition unit. The logged data is stored in the Babylon database and is utilised in the management reports and sent to SAP for use in the payroll module."
The GUI is a graphical representation of actual site detailing the exact location of the various controllers, readers, cameras and fire detectors. This enables the operator to gain visuals via the CCTV system of a live clocking taking place at the reader or of an alarm or event generated by a programmed trigger (eg, video motion detection) or of the room or area where a fire has been detected.
* Asset tagging: Assets are fitted with a tag that transmits a radio signal, so as to be able to determine when the items are being moved around - or even removed from the building or location. Personnel are issued with tags which can be fitted into the access card or head lamp of miners enabling the tracking of personnel at any time. This technology greatly assists the mining industry in being 100% certain that all personnel who entered the mine at the start of a shift have evacuated the work area at the end of a shift or that areas where underground blasting is about to take place are clear of personnel.
* Fire detection: Our fire detection and extinguishing solutions offer accurate, dependable and timely responses to fires. Solutions are adaptable to any environment - from controlled clinical situations to heavy industry.
* Integrated security management: A cutting edge, locally developed management and monitoring tool. ISMIS monitors trends (from data gathered by Babylon, the CCTV and digital recording system) and provides user-friendly management reports and graphs.
* Open transport networks: Innovative network backbone solution. OTN combines voice, video, data and LAN on a dual redundant fibre-optic link - thereby integrating all aspects of the business onto a single backbone.
* Intelligent traffic control systems: Leveraging our expertise in the field of CCTV and surveillance technology, we have expanded our offering to include intelligent road monitoring and traffic management systems.
Says Ferreira, "All the above systems are less effective as isolated standalone systems - however, once integrated, offer a powerful management tool of integrated technologies engineered, installed and commissioned by an expert team of professionals at SBT.
"In a region where so many people have been previously disadvantaged, a committed philosophy of diversity management has been adopted by a philosophy which is applied through the entire business process. Black Economic Empowerment partners currently own 26% of Siemens Southern Africa."
With the scope of solutions and technologies available and commitment to the people of Africa, Siemens SBT clearly demonstrates that it is a genuine partner company, in Africa for Africa.
