OnGuard named 2003's best access control product

February 2004 Access Control & Identity Management

Lenel Systems International’s flagship, OnGuard Total Security Knowledge Management Solution, has been named ‘Best Access Control Product of 2003’ at the Fourth Detektor International Awards ceremony, which was held in the Globe Arena in Stockholm, Sweden, on 28 October 2003. The event coincided with the opening day of the Sectech Expo and Conference.

The Detektor International Awards were created to reward and encourage research and development within the security technology field. The awards are conferred by Detektor International, Europe's leading security technology magazine. Said Lennart Alexandrie, editor and publisher of Detektor International, "This prize signifies both confirmation and recognition of products that stand up to the criteria of outstanding innovation and contribution to the advancement of the security industry."

Detektor International Award nominees do not apply for consideration. Rather, 12 products - four in each of three categories - are independently nominated from among approximately 600 of the latest product developments from around the world. Winners are then chosen by a jury of eight members of Detektor's editorial board. The overall 'Best Product Award' winner in each category receives a glass sculpture that was specially designed for the Detektor International Award by renowned glass artist Bertil Vallien.

In proclaiming OnGuard ET Third Edition to be the 'Best Access Control Product of 2003', the jury stated, "This fully featured system, with a flexible open architecture, seamless integration possibilities, and using modern open communication combined with safe data encryption, is certainly an impressive development from Lenel."

"We are delighted that OnGuard ET Third Edition has been selected to receive this international honour," said Elena Prokupets, Lenel's President and CEO. "This award is further confirmation that our unique development philosophy, expansive technology portfolio and ardent commitment to world markets are unparalleled."

The new functionality offered with OnGuard ET Third Edition illustrates the distinguishing characteristics that have been hallmarks of the OnGuard platform since the beginning, namely open architecture and seamless integration.

Among the important elements introduced with OnGuard ET Third Edition are Lenel Network Video Recorder (IP camera-based digital video management), the Lenel OpenCard format (the first non-proprietary, open standard for smartcard applications), AES 128 bit encryption for communication between OnGuard software and Lenel controllers, and expanded support for third party devices and systems.
