Lenel Systems International, a global innovator in the development of integrated security systems, has announced a new edition of its award-winning OnGuard product suite. OnGuard ET Third Edition expands the offerings of Lenel’s Total Security Knowledge Management Solution to include IP camera-based digital video management, a new non-proprietary format for smartcard applications, more secure communication encryption and broader support for third party devices and systems.
"The new functionality offered with OnGuard ET Third Edition illustrates the distinguishing characteristics that have been hallmarks of the OnGuard platform since the beginning, namely open architecture and seamless integration," said Rudy Prokupets, Lenel's Chief Technology Officer and Executive Vice President of Research and Development. "Lenel continues to lead the industry in responding to the complex needs of today's security professionals, delivering maximum interoperability, performance, flexibility and value within a total product solution."
IP camera-based digital video management
With the release of OnGuard ET Third Edition, Lenel introduces the Lenel Network Video Recorder, an IP camera-based digital video management solution. Available either as a software-only offering or as a turnkey solution that seamlessly integrates with the entire OnGuard product portfolio, the Lenel Network Video Recorder delivers the ultimate in flexibility and open architecture. Customers can select any computer to use as their network recorder, and can also utilise their preferred IP camera and storage medium.
New access reader offers three levels of authentication
Lenel has expanded its hardware product suite to include the Lenel BIOGuard LNL-BIO-007 access reader. The LNL-BIO-007 reader combines three forms of authentication: a PIN keypad, a fingerprint sensor and (optionally) a proximity reader. The LNL-BIO-007 reader communicates to a Lenel Intelligent System Controller (LNL-2000) through a biometric reader interface gateway using RS485 and one of two reader interface modules via Wiegand communication.
The fingerprint sensor on the LNL-BIO-007 reader is concealed until a valid credential and/or PIN is presented. The fingerprint sensor door then opens and, after verification occurs, the door closes into a secure, vandal-resistant position.
Cisco alarm interface controller integration
OnGuard ET Third Edition integrates support for the Cisco alarm interface controller (AIC) panel, an input/output device that attaches to a router and can be placed on a network. The AIC offers network managers the ability to remotely monitor and control non-IP devices anywhere on the network.
New layer of security for encrypted communications
OnGuard ET Third Edition supports the AES 128 bit encryption standard for communication between OnGuard software and Lenel Intelligent System Controllers (ISCs). Customers now have the option of utilising a more secure communication encryption capability to and from all Lenel controllers than was previously available.
Lenel OpenCard format
The Lenel OpenCard format is the first offering in the security industry that creates a non-proprietary, open standard for the information encoded on smartcard credentials. Until now, all other solutions have been proprietary in nature. This has necessitated that the cards be preprogrammed and sold by individual card reader manufacturers to their customers. The Lenel OpenCard format offers users the opportunity to achieve hardware and system independence, by ensuring that they are not restricted to one vendor for their readers or cards.
In creating the OpenCard format, Lenel has defined a complete suite of applications that can be used for contactless smartcard solutions, including access control, biometrics, demographics and PIN management. OpenCard supports in-line encoding during the badge printing process. The format creates a specification for true smartcard interoperability across all systems and applications for which smartcards are used. It marks the emergence of a universal platform for future expansion to an infinite number of smartcard applications.

Other key features of OnGuard ET Third Edition
* Support for new fire alarm panel. OnGuard ET Third Edition includes support for the new Notifier Onyx Series NFS-640 intelligent fire alarm control panel. This is in addition to the previously supported Notifier AM-2020 panel. OnGuard provides secondary annunciation of fire alarms and events generated from those panels.
* Expanded elevator support. OnGuard ET Third Edition provides elevator reader support for up to 128 floors, configurable in 16 reader segments. Previous releases supported a maximum of 64 floors.
* In-Line smartcard encoding. Using OnGuard ET Third Edition, system operators can encode contactless smartcards during the encoding phase of the badge printing process. In previous releases, only magnetic stripe cards could be encoded during badge printing.
