Is the time right for cloud surveillance?

November 2015 Surveillance, Security Services & Risk Management

There’s a new player in the surveillance market in South Africa, offering a cloud-based solution to CCTV users in homes and businesses. The company claims its solution is a step ahead of traditional surveillance solutions and is actively courting local partners. Hi-Tech Security Solutions asked the company to explain its position more clearly.

What is Partizan Cloud Storage and how does it improve on the classic recorder-plus-camera solution?

Partizan: Traditional CCTV systems are good, but according to multiple studies, people usually pay big money to install and maintain their systems, but rarely use it for more than 20% of what they initially expect. So what are we paying for?

Partizan Cloud Storage offers you as much flexibility as you need. With any Partizan IP camera, you can keep and use your videos in our secure cloud storage as long as you need it without any hardware recorder. You don’t have to pay for equipment you will never use (like recorders, hard drives, UPS and so on). And you don’t have to pay a lump sum (most of our partners and resellers offer a lease plan).

What is the Internet bandwidth required for smooth, live streaming and recording of a camera to Partizan Cloud Storage?

Partizan: For the Home Package (TV resolution), we have two video quality modes: high and low quality. The bandwidth for smooth streaming in high quality has to be at least 1 Mbps; for the low quality mode, 300 Kbps to 500 Kbps will be enough.

The Business Package (full HD resolution), same way high quality stream will consume up to 2 Mbps, and the low quality around 1.5 Mbps for each camera.

What camera brands are compatible with your cloud storage?

Partizan: Partizan Cloud Storage supports only Partizan cameras.

What storage options do you offer?

Partizan: Our cloud storage subscription plans start from one month and can be expanded to a one-year option. So you can set up as many months of backup as you need. Moreover, to more easily view your video storage, we offer smart search capabilities like motion detection alarms. Other triggers will be added in the future.

How easy is it to set up your surveillance system?

Partizan: It’s as easy as to setup your TV. All you need to add a Partizan camera to the cloud storage is the Partizan MAC address on the camera. In a few steps you will be registered to Partizan Cloud and can choose your preferred backup plan.

What about privacy? Who can see my cameras or my customers’ cameras via the Partizan Cloud?

Partizan: Our cloud is 100% secure. First of all, your connection to the cloud is encrypted over SSL. Moreover, our cloud core was built in a way that nobody else can see your cameras without your permission, confirmed via SMS. Even our R&D and technical support can see only your camera status (online or offline) and the log of your connection times; they have no access to your backup or private account.

Who are your main customers? What benefits can you offer them?

Partizan: We have three groups of target customers. First are home users as well as office, retail or commercial projects – all who need a fast, easy and flexible surveillance. We offer them online secure and protected storage for their camera footage, with immediate access from anywhere in the world.

Second are cloud solution providers, like Internet providers, mobile operators or any other IT and Internet companies dealing directly with many end-users. Our offer for them is to add a smart IP surveillance to their portfolio of services.

Third are cloud service providers or physical security companies with monitoring centres. We can integrate our cameras with cloud storage into their monitoring centre and offer a video alarm surveillance (VAS) solution.

We are currently offering a trial package. It’s a special promotion with two weeks of free cloud storage for any Partizan camera or recorder.
