Enforce Security

Residential Estate Security Handbook 2016 - Vol 1 Residential Estate (Industry), Security Services & Risk Management

With sophisticated security capabilities, including skilled security personnel, security training, armed response, private investigations, estate security management, control room management, the supply, installation and maintenance of security technologies (including CCTV, access control) and remote CCTV surveillance, Enforce has taken on a pioneering role in the private security industry, and has an impressive integrated approach to security management. It also remains on the forefront of technological advancement within the local private security industry.

Enforce MD, Derek Lategan, says the company’s strategic intent is to go beyond delivering a security service and create environments where people can thrive. “Over the years we have started seeing the increasingly strained economy result in security budgets coming under pressure and many estates being tempted into taking shortcuts on their security. We therefore set about designing a concept whereby the ideal solution to safety and security is a cost-effective blend of better skills, intelligence gathering, and new technology.”

In producing this solid, integrated service offering, and the skilled professionals necessary to implement it, Enforce has adapted its recruiting, training and operating models, and makes use of new – and develops its own – technologies to stay on the edge of new advancements and capabilities.

Glenn Allen, Enforce director: technology, explains that Enforce had years ago recognised the pace at which security technology was advancing and made a strategic decision to stay at the leading edge of these developments. “Because of our investment in technology, we are now in a position where seamless integration between manned security services and security technologies is a reality,” he said.

Among the current technologies used by Enforce are thermal imaging cameras which are installed on estate perimeters to detect potential intruders before they breach the perimeter. This has been found to be more effective than infrared detection systems. In addition to quality perimeter detection systems, Enforce places important emphasis on access control security, and has the technical capabilities to implement top-of-the-range systems, such as biometric access control. It also has in place stringent visitor management systems to determine exactly which visitors (or contractors) are on site at any particular time.

As a result of its technological capabilities, Enforce’s security guards are equipped with the skills and capabilities to effectively manage and accurately interpret the technology as well as monitor and control internal threats. This is integral as the technology is only as effective as those who operate it.

“This is one of the many reasons we place a strong emphasis on upskilling our employees. We also take pride in the calibre of employees on site, many of whom become greatly endeared to the residents,” Lategan says.

Enforce is equally focused on its intelligence system and uses Intel gathered by its private investigations team when managing the security of its estates. Lategan says the detectives have interviewed known estate house-breakers to determine why they target estates and why they use the modus operandi they do. The company also has its own in-house criminologist to analyse crime trends and statistics which it shares with its clients.

“We place importance on learning from, and sharing our experiences between various estates. Having been a leader in estate security management for as long as we have, we have learned which security models work, and which do not. We have learned to use experiences in some estates and apply them to others, always with the intention of providing a more solid level of security,” says Lategan.

The company is also enjoying the benefits of its business partnering with Excellerate Property Services, a venture that truly allows for a fully integrated service offering.

Clinton Phipps, Enforce’s CEO, explains, as much as security budgets are under pressure, so too are operating budgets, and this is where Excellerate’s integrated property service offering, which provides one-stop delivery of a broad spectrum of property-related services, becomes an “extremely attractive proposition”.

“Ultimately our clients see the benefits of service integration in their properties and on their bottom line because we are able to achieve measurable operational efficiencies by leveraging joint operational resources and implementing best practice operational processes.”

In addition to security, Excellerate’s extensive range of property services includes property management, facilities management, leasing and sales broking, cleaning, parking, repairs and maintenance, utilities, development and project management, pest control and landscaping among others.
