Criminals will wait for hours, even days, testing the systems and processes at estates, and it is human nature for security personnel to become complacent after the fifth ‘false’ activation.
The difficulty in only using manpower is that even with a zoned electric fence and superb response to the activation, by the time security personnel reach the activated area the criminals may be anywhere within the estate, making them difficult or even impossible to locate. It is therefore imperative to ensure that security personnel are pro-active and warned when criminals approach the estate perimeter wall.
The success in this lies with thermal CCTV cameras with complete analytics. A virtual barrier is programmed facing away from the boundary wall / fence, and the analytics will detect human figures approaching this barrier by means of thermal imaging.
Since nobody can monitor a screen for a continuous 12 hour shift, it is important for these cameras to be set up using blank screen technology, i.e., activation based only. These should also be linked to a siren or strobe light within the command centre / guardhouse.
