An holistic approach to security

Residential Estate Security Handbook 2016 - Vol 1 Residential Estate (Industry), Surveillance

For years, society has been chasing secure, comfortable and convenient lifestyles. As a preferred living environment, security estates continue to rise in popularity. The primary lure of housing estates is one of safety and security, homeowners are investing in security estate lifestyles that provide an exclusive living environment accompanied by peace of mind and excellent service management.

In order to enjoy complete peace of mind a security estate would need to have a minimum security infrastructure consisting of secure perimeter fencing, controlled access points with 24-hour patrols, a reliable alarm system, and a CCTV monitoring system which provides residents with a reliable security solution.

But no matter how secure we think a gated community is, we can’t help but ask ourselves: Are security estates safer? Security estate property owners often have a false sense of security because they believe the estate has an adequate level of security in terms of electric fences, security guards, etc. However, crime statistics have proven that residential estates are increasingly being targeted by criminals and often having a security company manage the residential estate is not enough.

The lesson to be learned here is that we still have to take responsibility for our own safety. We can’t just rely on perimeter fencing or walls around a gated community or a guarded entrance to keep criminals at bay. An added layer of protection is required in our homes – a complete security package consisting of access control, alarm systems and CCTV detection is recommended. Fortunately we can still have that open-style living that makes security estates so attractive if we choose the right products.

Using a combination of security products along with the intelligent integration of an alarm system, such as the INIM Electronics intrusion detection range, and other security devices allows security estate homeowners to have the additional peace of mind. This offers greater peace of mind, more stringent security and an added return on investment (ROI). Security is an important part of living in South Africa today, and obtaining a comprehensive, holistic security solution should be top of mind for residents.

ProvisionISR, for example, is a professional CCTV manufacturer that was created to answer the market need for reliable high quality CCTV products. Provision’s CCTV cameras allow the homeowner the freedom to log in remotely in order to monitor their CCTV footage via smartphones, tablets or PCs. In addition to its professional CCTV range, it offers various access control solutions, including a new range of biometric readers.
