Controlling access at Ramco Printing in Kenya

Access & Identity Management Handbook 2015 Access Control & Identity Management

With a staff complement of over 200 people, busy Kenyan printing works Ramco Printing, needed to keep track of people entering and exiting its premises in an effort to tighten the company’s general access control. Tasked with a number of client-sensitive printing jobs, this 21-year-old company guarantees complete confidentiality to its diverse customer base.

The company selected the Turnstar Triumph turnstiles to control access at its two facilities in Nairobi, Kenya. Turnstar director Craig Sacks says that the printing works required a durable and proven turnstile that could be integrated with a card and biometric fingerprint reader system for security and time and attendance (T&A) purposes.

“Our reputation for developing reliable access products precedes us and Ramco based their purchasing decision on our referenced client base which extends from sports stadia, to national keypoints, ports and airports, through to industrial facilities. Careful consideration of design elements that reduce or eliminate system failure, coupled with the extended lifecycle of the turnstile, have made the Triumph the first choice for a multitude of installations,” Sacks points out.

Sacks explains that Triumph turnstiles continue to gain in popularity due to the fact that they provide a secure solution combined with a fit-and-forget five-year guarantee. “This ensures high levels of access security and minimises scenarios where tailgating and clocking fraud might occur. Whilst security is obviously the highest priority, the design allows for manual key operation, should a power failure occur.”

The 14 full height industrial Triumph turnstiles are hot dip galvanised for corrosion resistance and were shipped to the port of Mombasa in a 12 metre shipping container in July 2015. The modular bolt-together design allows for ease of transportation and installation, with components able to pass through a standard door.
