Unification: The key to a safer future

Issue 6 2023 Surveillance

With technological advances in security systems, from wireless networking to edge analytics, control rooms have become highly efficient, effective epicentres for monitoring, managing, and responding to security-related activities. And this remains true whether you operate a pure ‘monitor and respond’ business or have personnel on the ground in a controlled area – either way, you’ll need constant, consistent, and comprehensive insights to your control room.

With so many security products and platforms, it can be difficult for a control room officer to keep an eye on every potential risk area. Add to this, pulling data for analytical reports can be tedious for security managers. However, with Genetec’s advances in terms of video capability, software and management of a site are made so much easier to make long term decisions, as well as scenario-based snap judgements.

“A key aspect of security is unification – being able to get all the information needed into one central place. And this is the area in which Genetec specialises,” explains Regal’s Head of Product Management, Michael Collier. “Through their technological advantage, Genetec unifies physical security activities, functions and data, empowering security systems, officers and managers to proactively respond to potential threats before they escalate.

“The other half of this security equation is Hanwha Vision, and with the proprietary Wisenet 7 chipset embedded into the latest range of Hanwha Vision cameras, the surveillance system also becomes a means of delivering business data and actionable intelligence. From a pure security aspect, the cameras can be used on city streets, in shopping centres, high traffic areas and financial districts. From a business intelligence perspective, the cameras and analytics can be used to track vehicle traffic patterns, produce retail heat maps and manage queues; giving business executives the data needed to improve their day-to-day operational efficiencies.”

Improving control room deliverables

Integration of cameras: Hanwha Vision cameras integrate into Genetec’s VMS module, Omnicast, allowing the VMS to receive and manage video data and its respective feeds from the cameras.

Video feeds and analytics: Once integrated, Genetec’s Omnicast can display live video feeds from Hanwha Vision cameras within its user interface. This allows security operators to monitor and manage video streams from different camera locations using a single control interface. Additionally, any advanced analytics features provided by both Hanwha and Genetec can be utilised together for enhanced threat detection.

AI camera plug-in: Hanwha Vision’s AI camera plug-in acts as a bridge between the cutting-edge AI cameras and Genetec Security Center. This integration enables the automatic registration of AI analytics metadata generated by Hanwha Vision’s cameras into the Security Center ecosystem. The result is a powerful synergy that facilitates rapid and efficient forensic searches, significantly reducing the time and effort required for post incident analysis.

Centralised management: By providing operators with the tools to efficiently manage and monitor multiple camera feeds, these solutions elevate situational awareness and empower proactive decision-making. As security challenges evolve, the centralisation offered by Genetec becomes an indispensable asset in safeguarding people, assets, and critical infrastructure.

Events and alarms: Integrating Hanwha Vision cameras with Genetec allows for the capture and management of events and alarms triggered by the cameras. For example, if a camera detects motion in a restricted area, the management system can receive and display an alert in the control room, enabling operators to respond quickly.

Compatibility and updates: Both companies work together to ensure that their products remain compatible through software updates and compatibility testing. As camera models and software versions evolve, they collaborate to maintain seamless integration.

Customer benefits: The collaboration between Hanwha Vision and Genetec provides customers with a comprehensive security solution that combines high-quality video surveillance hardware with advanced VMS features. This combination allows for effective monitoring, incident response, and data management.

“We can no longer provide a system or solution that does just one job,” concludes Collier. “Security solutions providers such as Regal need to provide unified high-end security solutions, where access control compliments surveillance, which in turn works with intrusion detection and is all tied up in one neat, easy-to-access platform, like Genetec.”

The partnership between Hanwha Vision and Genetec represents a fundamental transformation in control room deliverables. Their collaborative efforts have redefined the capabilities of control room operations by combining AI analytics, centralised management, and advanced insights. This synergy not only enhances efficiency and accuracy, but also empowers control room personnel to take proactive measures in safeguarding assets, people, and critical infrastructure. As the security landscape continues to evolve, the combined forces of Hanwha Vision and Genetec are poised to shape the future of control room excellence.
