Hikvision aims for solutions

Hikvision recently held a roadshow titled Industry X, where the company highlighted its latest products and solutions, supported by partners AccuReward, Jarrison, Lytehouse, SACO and Scyla; as well as its distributors ADI, Pinnsec, Regal Security and Sensor Security.

Sean Liu, local CEO of Hikvision, kicked off the event by offering a brief glimpse into how the company has developed over the past two decades, naturally including its launch into the surveillance market in 2011 and its advances into the age of IoT and today’s AIoT. He also provided some insights into how Hikvision will be approaching the market in future along with its partners.

A key area going forward is Hikvision’s focus on solutions, specifically solutions by function, scenario and industry. The key for Liu is not to simply provide products, but solutions that add value to customers across multiple settings.

Solutions by function

The company’s Ruual Tromp was up next, looking at the Solutions by Function (SBF) approach, highlighting the various products Hikvision has in its portfolio. These range from the latest ColorVu ‘+X’ cameras, which include ColorVu cameras with panoramic, 4K, AccuSense, Live Guard and/or varifocal lenses. Following ColorVu, he elaborated on the latest TandemVu PTZ cameras which include a PTZ and a bullet camera in one product, with various other features and functions available to customers depending on their requirements.

Hikvision also offers a Radar PTZ camera which is ideal for perimeter security, as the radar can alert users to movement and slew the PTZ to provide video images of whatever it is. Thermal cameras were also under discussion with the HeatPro range, again available in different configurations, including with analytics to classify objects as humans or vehicles, etc. The cameras can also alert third parties, such as an armed response company, when the alarm is raised. The company even has a mobile trailer which can be set up to run in different locations, and can be powered by solar panels.

On the topic of solar power, Hikvision also has solar solutions for multiple camera types which can run wirelessly with 4G SIM cards installed. These range from budget solutions to high-end solutions for customers with large projects that require smart functionality – some of these will be launched this year. Battery systems are naturally available to allow cameras to continue functioning when Eskom’s blackouts occur.

The company also produces ANPR cameras as well as radar-assisted ANPR which allow for speed measurement. Tromp went on to talk about the AX Pro range of alarm systems which are already integrated with many of South Africa’s leading management platforms and transmission companies’ systems.

Naturally the MinMoe facial recognition products were also highlighted, along with the various models in the range, which can include fingerprint biometrics and card readers. Iris recognition is now also available. These devices have been integrated into various local partners’ solutions, ranging from access control to time and attendance, and more.

Hikvision’s latest management platform, HikCentral Professional 2.3, was also mentioned, as were additional products that don’t get as much attention, including video intercoms, webcams, network switches and wireless bridges, and even cabling and power supplies. The list continues with other products such as monitors, intelligent internal and external storage solutions, as well as entrance and exit products. HikCentral Connect is a cloud-based security management platform that is being expanded to allow for the management of all Hikvision’s products.

Solutions by scenario and industry

Hunter Ye took the stage to describe the Solutions by Scenario (SBS) concept. SBS, as the name suggest, includes combinations of different products from Hikvision that together provide a complete solution for various scenarios. The scenarios highlighted by Ye included perimeter security, which is made up of the integration of some of the products mentioned above, along with those designed to assist security officers when out on patrol (including drones).

Vehicle management is another scenario, covering both in-vehicle and external security as well as supervision and monitoring functionality. Of course, control rooms are an important aspect of security in South Africa, and this is another scenario Hikvision’s solutions cover, from video walls to the various communications products and a range of storage systems, as well as centralised management software. Hikvision also provides a health monitoring solution to ensure the technology is functioning optimally.

When it comes to Solutions by Industry (SBI), additional presentations were delivered showing the extent of the product range from Hikvision designed for industries such as smart buildings as well as smart retail.

The SBI solutions clearly demonstrated (if this wasn’t clear from the previous presentations) how Hikvision provides far more than security cameras. The company was demonstrating, as Liu mentioned, a full range of solutions that provide all a customer would need in the various scenarios and industries, to offer integrated solutions that add value for all users in specific functions, scenarios and industries.
