At the recent charity golf day hosted by FFETA (Fire Fighting Equipment Traders’ Association), an amount of R75 000 was raised for Children of Fire. FFETA rounded this up to R100 000, which went directly to the charity.
Thanks, and all credit, must go to Reggie Marimuthu who brought all his expertise to bear on arranging the event and drew on his many contacts to ‘come to the party’ – party being the operative word, particularly with many of the casinos participating.
The beautiful Blue Valley golf club saw a full course, with some 30 four balls taking part. Even the weather was kind, with blue skies and sunshine the whole day.
Various companies were at some of the holes, handing out drinks and other goodies, which were much appreciated by the players. The whole day was a lot of fun, with some comic relief for a few of the golfers who did not take it too seriously, the chair of FFETA being one. She has resolved to have lessons before she tries again next year. We also believe she needs some driving lessons.
The evening prizegiving was expertly handled by Reggie with accompanying music from Colin. Bronwen Jones of Children of Fire brought along three of their children, including Dora, who is the poster girl on their website. Bronwen gave an impassioned speech on the work of the charity.
Raffle ticket sales during the evening alone raised well over R8000 and the auctioning of various golf experiences raised a further R25 000. Other donations and the proceeds of items provided by various companies for auction added up to an impressive R75 000. The generosity of those present was exceptional, and the association say “a huge thank you”.
Winners on the day were HISSCO International. Andy Hudson was presented with the first FFETA Charity Golf Day trophy, which has been sponsored by ACCU-Sherq. Each member of the winning four ball had their own smaller trophy to take home. There were enough prizes that almost every team took something home. The evening finished with those brave enough up and dancing.
Thanks to all the participants and sponsors who went out of their way to support this worthwhile cause. A date has already been fixed for next year,
