New thermal access control from RS Components

Issue 1 2021 Access Control & Identity Management

RS Components (RS) has expanded its RS PRO range with the addition of a thermal imaging access control system. Combining traditional infrared temperature measurement with sophisticated AI (artificial intelligence) facial recognition, the RS PRO Access Control System offers an effective and versatile entry system for business, commercial and educational premises seeking to protect their perimeters for safety and/or security reasons. The device is adaptable and features multi-functional AI recognition for monitoring temperature, tracking attendance and achieving access control.

Comprising a thermal imaging camera equipped with platform software, this access control system is an ideal non-contact, hands-free facial recognition system which can also detect whether or not the person requesting entry is wearing a face mask, as well as providing a high-precision and efficient solution for temperature measurement. It can be used for attendance and access control for a wide range of environments. Typical applications include offices, factories and manufacturing sites; schools, universities and colleges; hospitals, research laboratories and other healthcare environments; supermarkets and shops.

The system requires the person wishing to gain admittance to stand in front of the device, so the inbuilt technology can rapidly complete a user identification and temperature measurement process. Should the registered body temperature exceed a normal value, the device will raise an audible alarm and prevent any further ingress so that further screening can take place.

It is equipped with a 7-inch colour screen with a 1080p resolution at 25 fps that supports face detection tracking and optimisation. Its wide dynamic, binocular HD camera can achieve facial recognition images in complex light environments within 0,2 seconds. The intelligent AI technology supports rapid recognition of people even if they are wearing glasses, face masks or other items, delivering high accuracy. The infrared thermal imaging is equally precise and can measure temperature to an accuracy of up to ±0,2°C.

Powerful software tools enable the device to be used for health screening and facial recognition combined, or as separate functions. The device has a face recognition library of 50 000 and the ability to store up to 100 000 identification records. The standalone cloud platform management software enables automatic face collection and batch import list, saving time and effort. It also assists in the centralised management of entrance data such as body temperature, visitors and entrance logs.

Sufficiently robust for external mounting, the unit’s housing is made from ultra-durable PC and ABS, rated to IP54, and has been drop tested at 2 m.

The RS PRO Access Control System comes with a three-year warranty as part of the RS PRO Seal of Approval, an assurance to customers that products are rigorously tested for quality, durability and consistency. It is now available from RS South Africa and across sub-Saharan Africa.
