Red G advances with 2020 vision

Issue 9 2020 Fire & Safety, Products & Solutions

Red G has reached its 18th year of trading while maintaining focus as South Africa’s premier fire-suppression systems supplier.

It specialises in providing a comprehensive range of clean agent gas-suppression systems, as well as a variety of water-based fire-suppression products to the industry.

This entrepreneurial company achieved dynamic growth and market position through the hard work and dedication of an enthusiastic long serving group of employees and by carefully choosing products with longevity. Red G’s flagship Ansul and Kidde brands have been in the country for over 25 years and are still fully supported today.

But its fire-protection solutions would have little value without additional customer support services, which is why Red G has invested heavily in ensuring that clients are correctly advised from the initial stages of a project.

Gas-suppression systems

Design. Red G provides full in-house design services for all its gas extinguishing systems, inerting agents, chemical fire-suppressants and carbon dioxide. Highly experienced designers provide consulting services for the application of Red G’s systems and products to ensure that the most appropriate system is chosen for each specialised application.

Room pressure testing. As gas suppression systems rely on adequate gas retention time during the fire extinguishing process, Red G promotes the requirements of international standards for Mandatory Room Integrity Testing. The company’s technicians are fully trained and accredited by Retrotec and all equipment is regularly maintained to the manufacturer’s requirements.

HP testing. To provide mandatory HP testing of all high-pressure cylinders and manifolds in accordance with the Pressure Equipment Regulation, the company invested in a state-of-the-art pressure rig to test cylinders to 600 Bar. It is with pride that Red G achieved accreditation as a SANAS inspection body in 2017. Its 2020 SANAS audit once again passed with zero non-conformances, which provides peace of mind to customers.

Once cylinders are HP tested, the company provides the option for sandblasting and repainting, and authorised refilling of all its gas products to ensure cylinders are returned to service in perfect condition. In addition, to ensure that the valves remain undamaged during the removal and refitting process, Red G had a PLC-driven machine specifically engineered and manufactured for all makes of valves so that torque settings are input to OEM instructions.

All tested pressure equipment is logged electronically and marked with a Flymarker dot peen marker for traceability.

New range of chemical gas suppression systems

Red G developed its own brand of carbon dioxide gas-suppression systems over a decade ago, which are sold extensively; both locally and throughout sub-Saharan Africa. In 2020 the vision expanded and the company is excited to launch its latest range of Red G clean agent fire suppression systems which will provide top quality, affordable solutions within Africa.

To this end, Red G employed the well-known hydraulic calculation software development company, Jensen Hughes to develop specialised software for all its gas systems, using the exact coefficients for the range of low-pressure gas cylinders in combination with our German engineered valves and nozzles.

Red G is the sole distributor in South Africa for the robust range of ancillary products from Fiwarec for high-pressure fire-suppression systems. These components have passed stringent testing to obtain VdS, LPCB and FM approvals and are UL-listed. Major benefits of our new Red G clean agent systems are:

• Affordability.

• Interchangeable and approved ancillary components for various systems: HFC 227ea, FK-5-1-12 and CO2.

• Chemical gas systems all include a monitored low-pressure switch built into the pressure gauge.

• Large range of cylinder sizes to cover any application: from small server rooms to giant data centres.

• Supported by a professional team.

• Water-based fire suppression systems.

In 2015, Red G made the bold move to include water-based suppression to its range of distributed products. The company is a well-established authorised distributor for the extensive range of the ever-popular Tyco sprinkler and deluge products. Red G’s large stockholding ensures quick turnaround times to assist its valued customers for all size projects. Delivery is generally included throughout South Africa.
