Scalable perimeter protection

1 July 2020 Perimeter Security, Alarms & Intruder Detection

Residential estate security has many layers, but undoubtedly the perimeter of any estate is the most critical. If we can stop would-be intrusions at the perimeter then not only do we prevent damage, theft and harm, we also send a message to criminals that they are being watched.

In order to protect the perimeter of a building or estate we need to consider and meet the following objectives:

• Provide a reliable means of detection of attempts to breach the perimeter.

• Integrate into existing security hardware and networks.

• Give a cost effective solution, especially for smaller sites.

• Combine high detection with low false alarms.

• Be aesthetically appropriate, especially at high-end residential properties.

Senstar perimeter solutions are used at high-value and critical infrastructure sites all over the world and for decades have shown reliable detection capabilities without the inconvenience of unwanted false alarms.

Senstar perimeter intrusion detection systems provide a range of solutions to protect estate perimeters with no major changes to existing infrastructure, often at a fraction of the cost of a typical fence. When installed, the precise location of any attempt to cut, lift or climb the fence structure is known.

“Once an intrusion attempt is detected it can be communicated in a number of ways to on-site or remote response units. The system can then trigger a pan/tilt/zoom (PTZ) camera as well as audible and visual alarm devices such as loudspeakers or sirens. Flood lights can be activated and, depending on budget, even a drone can be activated and sent to investigate,” says Stuart Perry, sales director for Dark Horse Distribution.

Directly integrated into on-site video management systems and/or alarm panels, all alarm events are recorded and logged via the Senstar Network Manager software, for which full SDKs and APIs are available for further integration.

Even though the systems themselves are technically advanced, they are relatively simple and cost effective to install, consisting of a sensor cable that simply attaches to the fence structure and is then calibrated to suit the environment. In order to accommodate a budgeted financial approach, the Senstar system is completely scalable and will fit with staged implementation.

“The very nature of the installation of the systems lends itself to a staged installation,” says Perry. “High-risk areas can be targeted first, with the remainder of the perimeter added on when budget allows.”
