From the editor's desk: We're back!

Issue 5 2020 News & Events

Welcome to the fifth issue of 2020. If years were people, 2020 would have been hung, drawn and quartered before being cremated and having its ashes thrown in a vat of acid, which was then sealed and launched into space, aimed directly at the sun.

The good news is that after two issues where we only released a version of Hi-Tech Security Solutions in electronic format (PDF and the website), we are back with a printed issue once again. A surprisingly large number of our readers (surprising to me, anyway), said they prefer receiving the PDF version. Of course, others were less impressed and like the idea of reading a physical magazine.

As a bonus, we have also put together the 2020 edition of the Residential Estate Security Handbook, which you received in the same envelope as Hi-Tech Security Solutions. Estates are also under the gun these days with a tanking economy and COVID-19 risks, and we have endeavoured to throw some light on the situation.

Security managers know what it is like to operate on a shoestring budget, but even that may be a luxury over the next year or three. We therefore included an article in the Residential Estate Security Handbook offering advice on how estate security teams should approach their tasks when budgets are cut.

Andrew Seldon.

As far as the Residential Estate Security Handbook and Hi-Tech Security Solutions Issue 5 are concerned, we have much more editorial than could be slotted into the physical magazines. So please keep an eye on the website for more articles. The regular Hi-Tech Security Solutions news briefs on Tuesdays and Thursdays will carry the Issue 5 articles and many more, while four dedicated Residential Estate Security Handbook news briefs (going out on Wednesdays, starting on 15 July) will include those articles – and quite a few more.

If you are not already receiving the news briefs and would like to, please let us know. Otherwise, I hope you enjoy and find value in both publications. With any comments, criticisms or suggestions for future articles, please let me know on [email protected]
