Pima’s Force Series

Issue 3 2020 Perimeter Security, Alarms & Intruder Detection

Pima recently launched its latest alarm system, the Force Series into the South African market. Pima’s country business development manager, Jack Edery, says the Force Series is a significant upgrade to traditional alarms, offering more features and functionality.

The new control panel, for example, include a 7-line LCD panel that allows it to display more information to assist installers and users. Some of the information that can be called up include power diagnostics that provide a real-time display of the panel and peripherals current consumption, as well as voltage levels. The system can be configured remotely via secure IP connections, or via Pima’s app, PIMALink 3.0, which also displays alarm notifications to users.

Configuring a newly installed panel will take a maximum of 30 minutes, but the configuration can then be shared with other panels (in large installations) via IP or via a USB key. Firmware upgrades are handled automatically and remotely to ensure users are always using the latest version without having to wait for an installer to do the upgrade manually. The Force Series has also been ICASA approved and supports various communication media such as PSTN communicator, Ethernet interface, and a cellular add-on transmitter supporting 2G/3G/4G and an option for a dual SIM.

The system is designed for security and privacy with 128-bit AES encryption enabled for all IP communication. Furthermore, installers are assigned separate codes to ensure the security of the system and that they can’t access the system without permission. Installers are also forced to change the access code when they first configure the product to ensure default codes can’t be used at a later date by those with nefarious intent.

Additional security features include advanced options such as the ability to limit user authorisations to perform only specific operations, granting a remote technician access based on approval of the system’s user, and time-limited zone bypassing.

The series consists of a range of options, each designed for specific environments, such as homes or offices, etc. Some other features in the series include:

• 8 security zones expandable to 144 zones.

• 64 wireless zones.

• Up to 144 users.

• 32 contacts (self-monitoring) – SMS notifications.

• Up to 16 keypads.

• Push notification to PIMALink 3.0 application.

• Smooth pairing (and unpairing) of smartphone to the control panel.

• Integration with a wide range of wireless peripherals.

The system is geared for video verification as well as traditional alarm peripherals. Cameras can be connected directly to the panel, associated with a specific zone and the video viewed on the PIMALink app. Pre- and post-alarm video streams will be available to the user and video can also be recorded on a smartphone.

As for the app, PIMALink 3.0 is a cloud-based smartphone app, available for free, that enables users to remotely control their alarm system from anywhere. The cloud component allows users to manage up to 16 systems from the same app.
